Bus Service Change Proposed

Published: 04/03/2023 By Allan Fuller

A consultation has begun on a proposed change to the route of the 485 bus.

Under the planned new service the bus would start and terminate at the same locations but it would divert to serve the Wandsworth Riverside development in both directions.

Transport for London (TfL) had consulted in 2018 on changes to the route than would have seen it run via Putney High Street and Upper Richmond Road instead of via Putney Bridge Road and extend to Wandsworth Riverside Quarter.

This would have required buses to make a right hand turn from Upper Richmond Road onto Putney High Street but current junction layout does not allow buses to do this safely due to concerns around junction capacity. An engineering solution to this problem could not be found despite discussions with Wandsworth Council.

Given that the right turn can no longer be provided the scheme TfL revisited the route and has come up with the latest proposal.

A map detailing this change can be seen below.

TfL plans to implement these changes on 26 March but has held a survey of passengers to find out their views. This engagement closed on 28 February 2023.
