Putney school of Art is a great local center that we have mentioned before. However there is another center that offers a brilliant selection of activities.
Art in Action was an annual festival of Art that took place in the grounds of an historic house in Oxfordshire. There were marquees filled with all forms of creative art with the artists and craftspeople there demonstrating their skills. There was also a large rang of classes teaching pratical skills in all media. After 40 years this annual event ceased, but its spirit lives on in Fulham.
‘If you hear a voice within you say you cannot paint, then by all means paint and that voice will be silenced.’
For many visitors to Art in Action, inspired by attending Practical Classes and watching artists demonstrate their craft, these words of Vincent Gogh were realised. The School of Economic Science whose students volunteered to run Art in Action for 40 years, also owns St. Oswalds Art Studios in Sedlescombe Road, Fulham (right) where practicing artists have worked and taught over the same period.
Aiming to continue the artistic tradition of St. Oswalds and to provide the inspiration gained by visitors to Art in Action, the West London Art School opened its doors in July 2017. Sue Cooper, Principal of WLAS said ‘Many of our tutors have taught and demonstrated at Art in Action and we all believe that everyone has an artist inside them. Our mission is to provide the best environment possible for artists of all abilities to discover and develop the artist within’.
Whether you are an absolute beginner, a foundation student looking to build a portfolio for university, or an amateur or professional artist looking for like-minded company, the West London Art School has the tutors, classes and facilities for you.
