April QUIZ: Answer!

Published: 01/05/2022 By Allan Fuller

April's Quiz Question was:

This Grade I Listed Georgian house not far from Putney was originally built as a hunting lodge for George II after he gained the throne in 1727, and what is its use since the mid 1950s?

Answer:

The house was built as a hunting lodge for George II, built soon after his accession to the throne in 1727, and completed in 1730, later occupied by various royals and dignitaries.

Then in 1955, the Sadler's Wells Ballet School was granted the use of White Lodge on a permanent basis. The school was later granted a Royal Charter and became the Royal Ballet School in 1956.

It is now recognised as one of the leading ballet schools in the world.
